Dimitrios Melas studied at the classical saxophone school of the National Conservatory of Athens with a series of scholarships from the National Conservatory Alumni Association due to excellent performance and progress with the composer and professor (Ph.) G. Daravelis where he obtained a Saxophone Diploma with Honors.
He continued his musical studies at the Orpheus Conservatory with the same professor where he received a Diploma in Saxophone with a grade of Excellence Pamdefi.
He has attended a classical saxophone master class with the French professor (Ph.) J.Y.Fourmeau of the Gergy-Pontoise Academy of Versailles.
His artistic activity as a soloist includes appearances in saxophone and piano recitals in the halls: F.S. “Parnassos”, French (I.F.) Institute, Dim. Piraeus Theatre, Book Gallery and concerts with chamber music ensembles (Sax Mediterranean Quartet) and with the newly formed saxophone orchestra (Sax Athlon).
He has collaborated in a series of concerts with the Orchestra of Colors, the Orchestra of the National Opera, the Orchestra of the E.R.T. and the Metropolitan Orchestra of Athens at the Athens Concert Hall and the House of Letters and Arts.
He also collaborated with composers M.Alexiadis, G.Daravelis, I.Drositi, G.Minas, K.Scoonenbeek where he performed their works for the first time.
He is an active saxophone teacher with many years of teaching experience in conservatories and music schools.
His students are excellent and have won prizes, medals and praises by participating in pan-Hellenic music competitions.
